Leaning Forward

Here’s a test of your driving change skills:

Imagine you’re in a meeting.

A team member asks for help from anyone on the team.

Many team members lean back in their chairs and begin grilling the other member on why he hasn’t solved the problem without asking for help.

Do you join them in their inquisition?

Or, do you lean forward, jot some notes on your notebook about what times you might be able to offer the team member, then offer that time to him?

Finding time for others that we aren’t required to give, but choose to give freely, is one way of driving change.  You’d want the same support from the team when you were in need, so why not offer the same help to others?

You decide if you’ll drive change.  Own that decision and be the change you want to see in your organization.

Why not try?
